The creative process as a jewelry designer can be pretty tricky to navigate. It will fill you with doubt and hesitation. ⠀ ⠀
When I was designing my latest collection, Siren’s Song (see pic) I had to learn some new skills in order to be able to create the pieces I had sketched out. (For those of you who are new here, all my jewelry is handmade) The process of learning how to hand-engrave and carve out metal patterns was a long one, it took me about a year to get really comfortable with it. Day 1 was so scary and Day 0, the day immediately before Day 1 was even scarier. Why? Because I knew there was a long journey ahead of me and I didn’t know if it would pay off. There was a chance that I was putting all this time, money and energy into something that could fall flat on its face. ⠀ ⠀
As a creative person, I’ve found it’s important to choose courage over doing nothing. At the end of the day, I want to be able to tell myself that I was a bad @ss mermaid who followed her dreams in the face of self doubt. That fear of failure wouldn’t stop me from doing what I love and developing my craft because when it really comes down to it, I can’t imagine doing anything else.⠀~ Jen
